The first World Cup to be held in the Middle East is set to the opener with Qatar on November 21st, 2022. Al Bayt Stadium, which holds 60,000 spectators, is the venue for kickoff. Qatar has been preparing for the international event with new stadiums and facilities as the days draw closer. The 2022 World Cup is expected to attract millions of tourists to the country. This year’s World Cup will be held in Doha, with eight venues close to the city, and will be played in 28 days rather than the 32 days which were utilized last year in order to avoid disruptions to the European season. This will be the last World Cup with 32 teams before it expands to 48 teams at the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. A 12-day group stage will see four games played every day in Qatar in 2022, and games that go into overtime later in the tournament will extend past midnight. The final will be held on December 18 at Lusail Stadium, which holds 80,000 spectators.
